Lincoln is the state capitol of Nebraska, located in Lancaster County. It is the second largest city in Nebraska, following Omaha. Most Omahans drive to Lincoln to see a Husker football game or a concert at Pershing Auditorium. Origin of Name.

When in Lincoln, don't miss visiting the Hyde Memorial Observatory. You can see the stars for free. The facility is totally operated by a volunteer staff. The Folsom Children's Zoo and Botanical Gardens (1222 S. 22th St.) has hundreds of butterflies native to North America on display. The facility is open 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. daily; Admission: adults, $5; senior citizens, $4; children aged 2 to 11, $3; children younger than 2, free. The Haymarket District (7th to 9th - O to R.) is a great spot to spend a Sunday afternoon. You can get additional information at the Historic Haymarket website. |

The Frank H. Woods Telephone Pioneer Museum (2047 M. St.) displays Alexander Graham Bell's original concepts and drawings of the telephone. Tours are available on request. Admission: Free, 402-436-4640, work 402-436-5597, home 402-423-4716. The International Quilt Study Center on the UNL campus (35th and Holdredge) displays the history of quilt making, fabrics, etc. with lots of displays. (402) 472-6301
